Theoretically I did it."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Since I am ending my weeks on Sunday, theoretically the first week of this year both began and ended on the first.\u00a0 Not wanting to break my New Year&#8217;s resolution right out of the gate, I did what anyone would have done, I made corn chowder for the Sunday communal meal at the Buddhist-Mongolian Cultural Center in Bloomington, IN.\u00a0 It is sort of cheating, but hey &#8211; I made something in one day &#8211; right?\u00a0 Here is sort of the rough recipe, which doubled served about fifteen people comfortably.<a href=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0398.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ingredients:<a href=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_03981.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-30\" title=\"The goods\" src=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_03981-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Yum yum\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_03981-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_03981-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For each pot of chowdah, you will need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>3 Large Potatoes<\/li>\n<li>1 Large Onion<\/li>\n<li>2 Large Carrots<\/li>\n<li>2-3 Cloves of Garlic<\/li>\n<li>1 Bag of Cut Corn<\/li>\n<li>A Goodly Amount of Milk<\/li>\n<li>1\/2 Cup of Cream<\/li>\n<li>Fragrant Spices<\/li>\n<li>Dried Herbs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition to that, delicious cheese and half-baked bread never hurt nobody.\u00a0 Pardon the frozen pizzas, but we were afraid we would run out of chowder.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0411.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-43\" title=\"Prep dis!\" src=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0411-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Chippity Chop\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0411-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0411-1024x768.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Next up &#8211; Prep!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Scrub those potatoes, peel those potatoes, peel and chop your onion and carrot, smash the ever-loving hell out of some garlic!<\/p>\n<p>FYI &#8211; carrots chop a lot quicker if you quarter them lengthwise most of the way through before chopping them crosswise.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Cooking Begins!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Put some oil, butter, or any kind of fat you have, about a tablespoon into your pot and melt.\u00a0 Add to this the onion and mashed garlic, and saute over low heat.\u00a0 You want the onions to sweat real nice, so put some salt on top, and wait for the mixture in the pan to get\u00a0 a little bit juicy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0414.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-46\" title=\"Sexy Saute Pan\" src=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0414-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Smells tasty!\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0414-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0414-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Add the carrot, and cook a couple of minutes more.\u00a0 Salt the carrots as well &#8211; this opens up the flavor some.\u00a0 Just a pinch &#8211; don&#8217;t overdo it!\u00a0 Look at your sexy saute pan!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Makin&#8217; Dah Chowdah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Now is time to make the bulk of your soup.\u00a0 Add your potatoes and corn to the pot, along with the cream, and add enough milk to cover your veggies.\u00a0 Add any seasonings you like &#8211; Dah Chowdah<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stir everything up, turn the burner to a medium heat and then cover it with a lid.\u00a0 The kitchen at the cultural center didn&#8217;t have matching lids, but that doesn&#8217;t matter much.\u00a0 When I was in college, I would make a lid out of aluminum foil.\u00a0 Just don&#8217;t use your cat and you will be okay.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0431.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-63\" title=\"Lid Madness\" src=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0431-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Lid MADNESS!\" width=\"580\" height=\"435\" srcset=\"http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0431-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/kat.chronobolt.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/IMG_0431-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Keep an eye on this bad boy &#8211;
